ESLPod is run by a team of experienced English as a Second Language professors with over 30 years of high school, adult, and university ESL teaching experience.Dr. Lucy Tse writes scripts and story ideas for the podcasts, and records many of the dialogs and stories. The host for the podcast is Dr. Jeff McQuillan, who helps read the scripts and provides explanations for them.
Both Dr. Tse and Dr. McQuillan received a Ph.D. in applied linguistics and education at the University of Southern California. Dr. Tse was a professor of applied linguistics and education at Loyola Marymount University, Arizona State University, and California State University, Los Angeles. Dr. McQuillan was a professor of applied linguistics at California State University, Fullerton, and Arizona State University. Both are currently Senior Researchers at the Center for Educational Development, the sponsor of ESLPod.com, and have published dozens of articles and books in the area of second language acquisition. Each has appeared on CNN, and they have appeared in several national newspapers, including the San Francisco Chronicle, the Los Angeles Times, and the Los Angeles Daily News, among others.

- Deadly Letters: An English Through Stories Mystery

Deadly Letters is a mystery novel written especially for adults learning English. It is written in the form of a standard mystery novel with 15 chapters, but is written at an English level that is easier to understand. Listen to each chapter read at a comfortable speed, followed by a summary of the story and a preview of the next chapter. You can follow along with a transcript of every word said in each chapter, and learn the vocabulary in each Learning Guide. Listening to this novel will help you learn useful and frequently-used words in English and is for anyone who wants to improve their general knowledge of the language.

Deadly Letters tells the story of a murder at a university. The detective is a former university professor, Jeff McQueen, who is helped by his nephew, Derrick Cruz. McQueen is asked by a friend to find the person sending threatening letters. Murder, secrets, and lies. Can McQueen and Cruz find the killer before the killer gets them?

"Introduction to the United States" is a course that answers your questions about the United States in a new and exciting way. This course uses some of the 100 questions from U.S. naturalization test, the test that people take to become a citizen of the United States. It focuses on how the U.S. was formed and how it works, who the important people are in its history and in the current government, and the different parts of this very big and diverse country.
Each question is followed by

• A simple answer
• A longer explanation

The explanation goes far beyond the simple answer to give in-depth background information, allow you to really understand the topic. Each explanation brings the facts and the history and stories behind them alive, making learning about the U.S. exciting and fun.
Learning about the U.S. has never been easier. After listening to this course, you’ll know what most Americans do about the United States!
Each question is divided into three parts. You will first hear the question read, then the short answer, and then a longer explanation of the topic. The longer explanation has built-in definitions of new terms and phrases, so you will understand it just by listening.
You will listen to the question-answer-explanation first at a slow speed, and then again at a normal rate of speech (fast). In this course, you encounter the important key vocabulary several times throughout the course, helping you really understand the meaning of the terms and expressions, and how to use them correctly.
